Display DreamCompute Pricing

#1

Hello,

Not sure how many people would like this or not…it would help me though.

I would like to suggest displaying the pricing for DreamCompute Instance flavors either at (https://panel.dreamhost.com/index.cgi?tree=cloud.compute&) under the area with the “View Dashboard” button, in the Menu under Cloud Services, or in the selection of instances in the Launch Instance (either in the drop down or in the Flavor Details).

Currently the only way I have been able to find pricing is here (https://help.dreamhost.com/hc/en-us/articles/217744568-What-is-DreamCompute-Predictable-Bill) while logged off and going to the DreamCompute product site.

Thanks!

EDIT

The pricing table listed at (https://help.dreamhost.com/hc/en-us/articles/217744568-What-is-DreamCompute-Predictable-Bill) is incorrect/outdated as well.

I’m currently paying more than the table list for subsonic. Granted not much more…

I agree with you that showing the prices would be ideal. That’s one of the reasons why DreamHost is developing a new UI, simplifed. If you go to https://cloud.dreamhost.com you’ll see it in action: it’s not the default dashboard yet but it’s very functional and in fact, it’s my personal default destination when I want to quickly create machines and volumes.

As far as the prices go, I couldn’t see what is wrong with the prices published. Can you please be more specific and point what you think is wrong, what should be the correct value?

Thanks

@smaffulli,

It’s funny you mention the new UI. After my post I stumbled upon it and it is pretty nice and clears things up. Very streamlined. I too will start using it. I understand it is a work in progress and I can’t wait for the finished product already. Will DreamObjects be added to the UI? That would almost make it my one stop shop besides having to make DNS updates.

The price chart is not “wrong” by any means. I would be the last one to complain about DreamHost’s pricing.

I can’t speak for the other flavors yet, although I currently pay $6.19 per month for subsonic instead of the listed $6.00. Again not a big deal and I’m not complaining in any way, nor am I chasing a refund or credit. 19 cents isn’t that much for me to worry about.

That’s weird. Did you spin up more than one machine? That would explain the $.19 if you had another subsonic running during the month.

I’m not sure. I think I have been paying $6.19 ever since, but I most likely am not reading the invoices right.

The only reason I noticed/cared was that I needed to draft up reports for my company at the time and start planning on our upcoming budgetary needs. $0.19 isn’t going to break my budget or raise any flags.

Thanks legacy, I had my colleagues investigate: you had one subsonic instance accumulating $4.04 worth of usage and one semisonic instance for $2.15 run during the month. Neither of those instances reached the spending limit for the month. Previous month charges on a semisonic instance maxed out correctly at $4.50.

When you calculate your budget, keep in mind that the top spending are per-instance. If you start a new instance during the month, that will start a new counter for that instance. Even if you kill an instance and start a new one, with the same size, the counter resets.
