Discussion list name

#1

Is there any way to NOT have the domain name as part of a discussion list name? I created a list called ‘afrobeat’ in my domain worldbeatplanet.com but the public name is ‘afrobeat-worldbeatplanet.com’.

That’s really ugly. I don’t want to have the domain name as part of the list name - it should simply be afrobeat@lists.worldbeatplanet.com, not afrobeat-worldbeatplanet.com@lists.worldbeatplanet.com. Yes, I know it creates short convenience addresses, but I want the short name shown as the official list name, not that ugly long one.

Check the “archives”. Here are a couple of links.

It looks like there’s no easy fix. Do you plan to install mailman 2.1 any time soon? If I can’t have a less ugly list name, I just won’t have any lists.

We already are using Mailman 2.1; however the virtual domain support here didn’t work the way we hoped it would. We do still hope to neaten things up at some point.

Remember that people can still email the short listname; there’s just no way to get it to show up in the footers etc.

I’ll wait until it’s cleaned up. I find the current setup unacceptable for my users.

I’m hoping for things to get neatened up too. Being able to host discussion lists was a big motivation for me to sign up with DH, and it is pretty awkward for my non-geeky users to have to deal with the strange list names.

In the mean time, I guess I can hardwire the short form into the footer and web pages, but that’s pretty gross.
