DH's Flash Media and WordPress

I can get the movies to work, but:

I have multiple posts with movies.
To get all on the screen to work, the script line (that first you only can use once) has to be in the topmost post. If I add another movie, I have to cut and paste that line into the new topmost post.

Is there someplace I can permanently put that line w/in WordPress so that I don’t have to keep moving it?

Funny thing is, even with that line only in the one post, if the other posts are viewed by themselves, the video works. I don’t get it. Blonde I am, yes.

I’m using it as a testing ground of sorts so be warned it’s kinda cheesy. :smiley: )

Well its not elegant but it will work. Go to Presentation -> Theme Editor and edit the file that generates the HEAD section of the pages. For me this shows up as “Header” and is named header.php in my theme. Just add that line before the closing HEAD tag.

That doesn’t work, at least for me. I’ve put it all over the header.php file (one at a time, of course).

before and after /head
before and after div id="content"
before and just after body

In the index.php file, I tried it in various places there, too.

Actually, as far as I can tell, that line’s not anywhere now but viewing individual posts will show a working video. If viewing the group of posts, no video shows up and all there is is the “you need flash” statement.

But, again, if I put that line back into the topmost post, viola, there they all are.

That’s weird, as Atropos7 suggestion should work…are running wp-cache? Possible you are seeing cached pages?

Okay, turned WP-Cache off.

Cut the line from the topmost post.

Put it into the header.php file just before the /head.

Opened the site with IE just in case Firefox has it cached.

Single post, the video is there.

Multiple posts, the video is not.

Eegads, dagnabbit, freakin’ blanketyblank.

this is the line, just in case I have it wrong:

script type=“text/javascript” src=“https://media.dreamhost.com/ufo.js
/script

I understand those sentiments completely. :wink:

I’m stumped. It seems as though it should work. I’m really sorry that I don’t know what else to suggest. :frowning: If you are willing to share the url where you have this setup, I’d like to look at the source generated for the page, though I’m not real encouraged - I can’t fathom why it isn’t working.

Have you looked at using the FLV plug-in for WordPress (as another possible approach?)

That plug-in is my project for this evening. Thanks for reminding me of it.

the FLV plugin comes ready configured for use (as long as you used one click install). Just go to write post and click the FLV button it will ask for the video url, dimensions and whether it should autoplay or not and then insert the code needed.

Ooookay. Got stuff to work but of course, had to troubleshoot.

I am now using the WP-FLV plugin for WordPress instead of the code DH provides. Makes sense to do this for WP with its changing pages/posts/topmost/etc.

HOWEVER, the FLV quicktag did not appear but I found a fix in the developer’s forum.

Link to the thread

Quote with the fix:
replace this line:
if(strpos($_SERVER[‘REQUEST_URI’], ‘post.php’) ||
strpos($_SERVER[‘REQUEST_URI’], ‘page-new.php’) ) {
with:
if (strpos($_SERVER[‘REQUEST_URI’], ‘post.php’) ||
strpos($_SERVER[‘REQUEST_URI’], ‘post-new.php’) ||
strpos($_SERVER[‘REQUEST_URI’], ‘page-new.php’) ||
strpos($_SERVER[‘REQUEST_URI’], ‘page.php’)) {
