on 2004040 dreamhost decided to update the mx records of many domains.
looks like they didn’t think to check domains that already had custom MX records in place. so the mx records for my domain now looks like:
brontes3d.com. 14400 IN MX 10 mx1.emailsrvr.com.
brontes3d.com. 14400 IN MX 0 mx1.spunky.mail.dreamhost.com.
brontes3d.com. 14400 IN MX 0 mx2.spunky.mail.dreamhost.com.
brontes3d.com. 14400 IN MX 0 mx3.spunky.mail.dreamhost.com.
brontes3d.com. 14400 IN MX 20 mx2.emailsrvr.com.
this prevents anyone from sending us email since we are using emailsrvr.com (webmail.us) and have no accounts setup at DH.
going to the dns manage page in the panel, you cannot delete those extra mx records.
the solution was to go in and re-enter our custom mx records. that forced the zone to update and delete the DH ones.
why did DH add in these extra mx records?
