CSR Generation help

#1

Hello,

I have never done this before and do not even know where to get started. I have a certificate credit with godaddy. When trying to apply for the certificate with them I need to generate a CSR. I have no idea where to get started on this. Where do I got exactly to generate this CSR? thanks for any help,

Robert

These are the instructions given by godaddy on how to generate a CSR for servers running Apache 1.3 + ModSSL:

Enter the following commands:

  1. cd /usr/bin/ (/your path to openssl/)
Enter a passphrase when prompted to.
  2. openssl genrsa -des3 -out .key 1024
  3. openssl req -new -key .key -out .csr

Where do I go to enter those commands?

You’ll have to ssh into your server. See the Wiki article for more help

Post back if you have more questions.

The link in the wiki to the putty tutorial is broken. What is the ssh hostname and port that i should be using?

#5

What is the propper user name and password that I should enter to gain access?

Scratch that. Im now in the server trying to generate my CSR. I entered the first thing in the goddady list. which said not a valid directory. so I tried the second thing: openssl genrsa -des3 -out .key 1024

and received this error:

-bash: gostwear: No such file or directory

any idea what to do?
