Cron jobs and email

#1

How do I stop the emails I get every hour because of the cron job I have set up? I tried sending the output to /dev/null, but it didn’t work.

Programs can produce two streams of output: “standard” and “error.” When you use > /dev/null, only standard output is redirected. So if the program produces output on the “error” stream, it will still be emailed to you.

To redirect everything to /dev/null, use “>& /dev/null”.
