Counter issues

#1

Hello, i have some trouble to activate my counter, maybe is a ridiculous thing, but is getting me troubles.

For example:
My user is: newbie
my contear prefer is this: Katt035 (’&dd=katt035&istrip=T’)

my code to put into my php code (is a portal) would be:

src=‘http://counter.dreamhost.com/cgi-bin/Count.cgi?df=anything-newbie.dat1&st=000000&p
ad=F&ft=0&dd=katt035&istrip=T’>

where ‘anything’ would be my counter name (unique one), and newbie my user name.

if this correct it’s doesn’t not work for me :/. I want to see the image of one counter in my site.

One person say to me that i have to make a counter name, my doubt is, any name actually work or i ask to register this name at the support?

I’m sorry for my english

Regards.

Well here is a working counter line with a few extras added in. (Not that I use a counter :slight_smile: )

<img src=“http://counter.dreamhost.com/cgi-bin/Count.cgi?df=A_UNIQUE_NAME_HERE.dat&pad=F&ft=0&dd=A&istrip=T&comma=T&trgb=000000&prgb=ff0000” align=absmiddle" width=100 height=25>

All on one line.

I did notice you were missing ‘img’ from your line unless that was a typo and that you have a 1 after the filename ending .dat so that it looks like .dat1. Although I am not sure if Count.cgi looks only for a file suffix of .dat.

This is the homepage for the Counter program here http://www.muquit.com/muquit/software/Count/Count.html so that may help further. Sorry but it is in english but may be visual enough to help.

Your English is okay.

Finally, i try several ways and i did it :D.

For the IMG part is definitively one of my doubts. I don’t want to say this before, but here is part of the message did i recive from support:
As for the counter, you need to have this:

http://counter.dreamhost.com/cgi-bin/Count.cgi?df=user_name_here&st=000000&pad=F
&ft=0&dd=katt035&istrip=T

changed to this:

http://counter.dreamhost.com/cgi-bin/Count.cgi?df=user_name_here.dat1&st=000000&p
ad=F&ft=0&dd=katt035&istrip=T’>
He never say nothing about the img or src this confuse more because i knew about those ‘tags’ :smiley: and he put a number (1) before .dat.

Only for the records, only work when i delete this part ‘&st=000000’ i forgot this the previous time :$.

Thank for the help, take care.

I think it is a case of several ways to do it either with img/src or without. The &st=000000 is only used once to set the starting number for the counter to show. You remove it after the first time it is run else the counter .dat file keeps going back to 0. You could use &st=979999 and cheat of course. :wink:

There is no real problem with .dat1 or even .datdatdat just as long as the Counter program knows where to put your count and not somebody elses!
