Common problem or hacked server?

So, I have been unable to access my webmail today since about 3 PM… figured it was just a simple config problem… really nothing else going on to alert me to a problem… file a ticket, wait for a reply… tonight I finally get home and go to check the ticket… of course the tech didn’t understand the problem or read through what I wrote carefully. Yes it was working previously… duh.

IMAP and Webmail are still not functioning so I go to SSH in to check if I can use Unix mail… just to delete spam and make sure my mailbox doesn’t fill up… I log in and get:

Could not chdir to home directory /home/*********: No such file or directory

uh… really? I try to CD to it… nope… it’s really not there… Oh Crap! I launch a web browser and sure enough all my web sites read:

Site Temporarily Unavailable
We apologize for the inconvenience. Please contact the webmaster/ tech support immediately to have them rectify this.

error id: “bad_httpd_conf”

so… since my home directory is gone… is that a common thing to happen accidentally or was it a malicious attack by someone?

thank you sXi… if you’ll read the wiki entry however you’ll see that it does not apply to this situation.

If you can’t FTP, log in, or anything to your account, then you should contact Support. Yes, you did this, but do the high level setting because people are dying.

yeah… that’s been done… just trying to find out if anyone has had this happen before or if anyone else on my server cluster is experiencing the same thing… Basically trying to find out if this is a DH account management scripting f-up or if it is someone directly attacking my account.

after reading the wiki it seems, although I cannot assure it, that it MAY apply to your situation.

Since logging into the shell shows nothing it may very well because your domain is pointing to a different server where you have no stuff owned by you inside… it would apply to mail aswell I think

anyway, I hope you get it straightened soon
best of luck!
