Take a look at this… I think this is the final straw for me… and there have been a lot of straws!
This usually happens when a site is getting hammered by Googlebot. To preserve the other sites on the server, Support will block Googlebot while the domain owner has time to fix whatever it is that’s causing Google to keep hitting their site.
So would he have preferred it if they just took down the whole site?
That’s what a lot of hosts would have done… and Dreamhost isn’t the only one that would just block the problem itself.
It’s called SHARED hosting for a reason – and his site isn’t more important than the hundreds of sites he was probably affecting before they did that.
If a site’s that busy or important, then pull it from the shared environment. That’s common sense.
