Changing Host - DNS Settings Help Needed

#1

I think I’m getting myself very confused here so any help would be most appriciated.

I’ve recently moved by host and understand I need to update the DNS settings to point to the new host … yes ?

I was given DNS information as :
Primary IP: 209.50.252.235
Primary Hostname: NS11.DNSPROTECT.COM
Secondary IP: 209.50.231.136
Secondary Hostname: NS12.DNSPROTECT.COM

On the web panel under Domains>Domain Registration I updated the nameservers as
NS11.DNSPROTECT.COM
NS12.DNSPROTECT.COM

as it didn’t update when I put the IP address in aswell.

So now my Whois info looks like this :
Domain Name: SAILORMOONFICTION.COM
Registrar: TUCOWS, INC.
Whois Server: whois.opensrs.net
Referral URL: http://www.opensrs.org
Name Server: NS11.DNSPROTECT.COM
Name Server: NS12.DNSPROTECT.COM
Updated Date: 27-dec-2002

Are these the right settings ?
Should my site appear when the DNS updates ?
How long should that be ?

You don’t say if you’re moving to Dreamhost or from Dreamhost. If you’re moving away from Dreamhost to a new host, you’ll need to ask the new host if your DNS settings are correct. But if you’re moving to Dreamhost from the other host, then your settings should be:

ns.newdream.net 66.33.206.6
ns2.newdream.net 66.33.216.16
ns3.newdream.net 64.70.42.11

This is covered in the Knowledge Base at: https://panel.dreamhost.com/kbase/index.cgi?area=2763
