Can't get email to work

#1

I am still having problems with setting up email accounts. Sometimes they work for me but other times it doesn’t.

Anyway, here is what I just done.

  1. I set up a mailbox for a domain
  2. I added an address for that mailbox

I then set up my Outlook Express like this:

Incoming mail server: mail.domainname.com
Incoming mail server type: POP3
Incoming mail server username: used the code that was created when setting up the mailbox (mxxxxxxxx)
Outgoing (SMTP) mail server: mail.domainname.com
My server requires authentication: checked. (use same settings as
incoming mail server)

But each time I check my email, it keeps asking for the username and password again.

Am I suppossed to set up a USER before setting up the mailbox?

The mailbox is a user (I find the terminology a bit confusing, but I think it makes more sense to most people that way). If you drop me a note on here with the mailbox number, I’ll try to take a look at it for you.

I had this same problem setting up a new mailbox 4 days ago.

Support was useless, first giving me bad advice about the e-mail address (which has nothing to do with retrieving mail via POP), then ignoring my subsequent message for more than 24 hours.

After about 48 hours, the SMTP service was working, but the POP service was not. (I could send, but not retrieve.) Finally, about 12 hours later, the mailbox started working, and I still had not heard back from tech support.

Will,

Did you have any luck with checking that out?

Sorry - I’ve been out of town. I will try to look at this tomorrow, but maybe shoot me a private message and remind me if you can… I’m still getting caught up from vacation.
