Can't do bash_profile

when it type this: “~/.bash_profile” in the ssh (cuz I want to be able to show which is current dir in the prompt line), it brings back a message: “permission denied”.
i tried both, when on the root directory and the home dir.

why does it happen?

If that’s all you’re typing, you’re getting that error because you’re trying to execute a non-executable file.

If you want to edit the file, do:

vi ~/.bash_profile Replace vi with your editor of choice.

If you want useful replies, ask smart questions.
