Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket

#1

I tried to migrate my forum database from another host to here. I tried the usual mysql -hHOSTNAME -uUSER -pPASSWORD DATABASE < DUMPED_TEXTFILE command thru ssh. I get the error.

I was told that they are having problems… that was a month ago. Now I tried it again, got the same error. I hope someone could help me. Support here never exist. Geez!!

If you get an error like “Can’t connect to local MySQL server through socket” then the command you are running is trying to connect to the mysql on the local machine through a socket rather than on a remote machine using the hostname. The example command you provide looks correct but you must be doing something incorrect.

Is the file too big for phpmyadmin? If it’s under 8mb that would be the simplest way…

Check out the k-base and double check that you’re typing the dump command properly.
