Can I connect my Dreamhost site to GitHub

#1

I have run into a couple of projects, at work, where we are using Git more and more frequently. I have the classic 4 Git commands down (status, pull, commit, push).

I would like to connect my Dreamhost site to GitHub, in hopes that I could learn how to actually use Git while experimenting on my own code base.

However, I know more about how to build a transdimensional stargate than I do about Git, at this current moment.

Is this connectivity possible with Dreamhost?
Can someone point me in the right direction for me to research?

Thank you very much for your time and any help you can throw my way

it’s not clear what, exactly, you want to do. You don’t need to Github to use git. Git is installed on your DreamHost server, so you can just type git clone http://github.com/interesting/repo.git if you want to work with an existing repo at Github. If you have a project on your local machine, you can make a bare repo locally, transfer the to the DH server, then set up yoru local repo push/pull to it. I use a setup similar to this: http://joemaller.com/990/a-web-focused-git-workflow/

Thanks for the reply BoboCat

Honestly, I’m not too certain on what I want either. I’m just starting on my git adventure. Thank you for the link as well, I’ll read through that tonight and see if I can get the git magic to work with my novice skillset. (I do really enjoy all the git vs. get puns I’ve been making)

The only reason I was thinking of connecting everything to GitHub, is that I liked the idea of having a public repo where other people can collaborate/borrow code. And GitHub seemed to be one of the larger communities out there.
