Will DreamHost allow it’s customers to run bittorrent trackers on thier servers? To be more specific, will you allow customers to run the tracking service, and allow uploads of .torrent files to the server?

Uploading .torrent files should be Ok, and I know we were talking about adding the appropriate MIME types for them.

However, running the trackers is generally not allowed. If you have questions about a specific program or service you’d like to run, contact support directly.

FYI, not all files in the bittorrent network are illegal files.
Bittorrent could even ease the bandwidth burden on the server for large shared files.

How come running BT trackers are not allowed?

Are PHP based BT trackers also not allowed?

Thanks.
