Baffled by Remapping - am I correct?

#1

I read the wiki page BUT seemed to have miss understood what happens when you remap a domain sub-dir.

I thought that if I remapped xyz.com/media to /home/someuser
it was setting up a symbolic link into the the xyz.com/media folder AND the someuser then could FTP files to the xyz.com/media folder.

xyz.com/media has 2 files podcast1 and podcast2

What has happened instead is that there is now a folder /home/someuser/xyz.com/media with nothing in it. I used WebFTP to upload podcast3 into /home/someuser/xyz.com/media BUT podcast3 isn’t available in the domain xyz.com/media folder.

SO OBVIOUSLY they are not sharing the same folder.

Do I understand this correctly?

No, they will not share the same folder.

I did… read it

and now I have to affirm the following

SO… The other interesting fact is that now my folder
/home/someuser/xyz.com/media is no longer accessible via a URL and HTTP - correct? yes/no?

Correct. If the “main” domain user had a directory that’s “masked” by a remapped subdirectory, the contents of that directory don’t show up online. (Because the web server looks in the remap target instead.)
