Bad_httpd_conf error

The support wiki at hasn’t been able to help me here so i’m hoping anyone on the forum has come across this before.

I have a domain name hosted on another provider and set up a cname entry to point one of it’s subdomains to a domain hosted on dreamhost.

When i ping the subdomain, it correctly recognises the cname entry and resolves to the correct ip address, but when i try and navigate to it in a browser, the following error appears:

Site Temporarily Unavailable
We apologize for the inconvenience. Please contact the webmaster/ tech support immediately to have them rectify this.

error id: “bad_httpd_conf”

I can’t figure it out! any ideas?

Dreamhost uses name based resolution for Apache, which means if the name doesn’t exist in the configuration file then you’ll see an error.

The way to fix this is setup hosting for that domain here.
