Using .htaccess and mod_rewrite, suppose I want to call “page.php”. If I redirect to /page.php, it looks for the file in the document root. Understandable, and natural.
But if I ask for page.php (sans “/”), the url should redirect to page.php in the current folder. Instead, it redirects to a big long string including the domain name and /home/myusername/otherstuff.
