Hi, I’m looking for a free alternative to MS Exchange. What I would like to be able to do is be able to get to my E-Mail, contact list and calendar whether I am at home (in Outlook) or on the other side of the globe (through a web based means).
Gmail does most all of this. The only hangup is that you want to be able to do this in Outlook from home as well. Throwing Outlook into the mix may kill the whole deal.
Another option would be Zimbra. I’ve never checked out, but it’s an option.
Thanks for the reply, but I don’t think that Gmail supports using my own domain name for the email addresses, right? I’ll have a look at Zimbra.
Last time I checked, Google Apps (not gmail) supports using your domain name for the email address. It’s free, so might be worth looking into as well
Chips N Cheese - Custom PHP installs and the like!
That’s too bad, as my work blocks access to Gmail
Try Horde webmail (http://horde.org/). It has support for everything you ask.
It requires some effort to get it running on Dreamhost (you must compile your own version of php and such)… Most of what you’d need can be found on the wiki.
