I’m writing a LaTeX plugin for my custom blog software, but it requires a graphics library called netpbm. It turns out that dreamhost actually has netpbm installed on my server, but unfortunately, they’re missing one program that my plugin will require, called ppmtogif.
I checked the permissions and, as one might expect, I don’t have permission to install netpbm directly into /usr/bin. I can’t install it to my home directory because of technical limitations. Are there alternative solutions? Should I just ask the support staff to install this program for me? What are the chances they’ll go along with that?
