A request from a beginer

Hello All,
I Just registered a domain name and getting into the web hosting. I need to know does Dream host support
PHP and CGI, ASP.
I am kind of thinking PHP and CGI are allowed but not ASP. Can some one confirm?

Any good reference materials for PHP and CGI

Correct. DreamHost uses Debian Linux on their servers and do not support ASP.

I am still a beginner with PHP, coming from ‘traditional’ languages such as C/C++ and Pascal, but I have found the most useful PHP resource to be the PHP manual

http://au2.php.net/manual/en/

if you are looking for a good host that has ASP i would suggest fasthosts.co.uk
I used them for 6 years before I moved to dreamhost and not once had any kind of problem or downtime.

Use the coupon code 60DOLLARS when signing up to Dreamhost for an instant $60 off!

I agree with Raz2133 in that the php.net site is a great resource. You can download the manual from http://www.php.net/download-docs.php but something else that is useful to know is that you can easily look up functions by doing http://www.php.net/function, replacing function as appropriate.

For instance: http://www.php.net/sprintf gives you info on sprintf (string print function, for formatting strings).

If you are looking for a step-by-step guide and have no experience with any other programming language, http://www.w3schools.com/php/default.asp covers all the basics and you can build on your knowledge from there.

Check out Gordaen’s Knowledge, the blog, and the MR2 page.

If you would rather read a book, do a search on Amazon and you will be flooded with books on php and cgi.
Of the books I purchased from amazon, I liked:
Programming php by O’reilly books
php cookbook by O’reilly
php bible by Wiley
