^ Yeah, visiting the site because I got that too (sorry kid, not interested...). Wonder how wide-spread that spamming was...
Liking the new board, though. BB-migrations can be fraught with social as well as technical issues. This one seems like it rolled over smoothly.

I got a forum spam today. That's my first ever.
Is there someone working on this?

I forwarded mine to andrewf this morning since he was the first official Dreamhost person I came across when I looked.
Seconded that a way to flag a message as spam would be helpful.

Thanks for the heads-up. I've nuked the account of the person responsible, and removed all the spam messages from the system.
If the problem recurs, I'll look into technical countermeasures.

I would have chosen SMF as software, but hey I was in their team, so why would I say different! Point is, we all have personal preferences. I just think it's nice Dreamhost moved away from the old software.

It doesn't make it easy to import data into it, though: the internal database format they use for bbcode is idiosyncratic and annoying. I'm also personally not a fan of how complicated they've made permissions management in phpBB 3.0, and its lack of any plugin system is simply inexcusable in this day and age.Various forum software have converters for different forum scripts. Its not unnormal to convert to one script, then to another software to get what you want.
By the way, SMF has offered a 1-file webinstall for several years, could probably easy be made to a 1-click installation.

I see no reason to pay for something at least as good in free form.

SMF is kind of a strange case in that it's freely available, but not free software. This is because their license prohibits users from distributing the software, or any modified version of it, without "express written consent from Simple Machines LLC". The license also defines "distribution" as "allowing one or more other people to in any way download or receive a copy of this Package" — a One-Click Install of SMF would certainly match this description. :/

There are many sites offering SMF as 1-click install, you just have to ask. Fantastico is a good (bad) example.
Besides, their software is soon about to change to a more free licence. The strict licence is mainly there to make sure people gets the newest software and not an old 1 that has bugs or sequrity holes.

How long has SMF 2.0 been in development again?
MyBB is imo the best free forum package available.
