Thought you guys might find this interesting.

RE: Running SRCDS on DreamHost PS
That's awesome! A few cautionary notes:
Definitely cool to see people trying new and different things on Dreamhost PS, though. Keep it up! |

RE: Running SRCDS on DreamHost PS
Awesome. Now I really want a PS. Tie to start saving. There are so many mods that don't have any servers running, and a speedy server in the US is better than none at all. (Australia FTL - Hosting costs sooo much!)

Also, what the hell are you guys feeding these virtual boxes? lol my findings on the usage required on a DH PS is 1/3 of what it takes on my actual box running redhat. |

RE: Running SRCDS on DreamHost PS
Could you use
$ less /proc/cpuinfo to get the CPU info or would that just return the 'virtual' CPU info? Try protein folding on it next

RE: Running SRCDS on DreamHost PS
So they aren't overly special. Dual core 2.4ghz Xeon.
Shared servers are more awesome, although they need to be. http://cazzaserver.com/images/procinfo.jpg At least I'm away from my previous host.... Server load of 70 != fun

RE: Running SRCDS on DreamHost PS
I actually like the DH PS more than my own box, cant really explain that one, it makes no sense, but I simply do.

RE: Running SRCDS on DreamHost PS
My 'box' is a P4. It would probably be valued at $5. Dreamhost shared server dominates it.

RE: Running SRCDS on DreamHost PS
Haha, nah.
I've seen some datacenters trying to rent out P4's for $100/mo, resellers love em because stupid people have no idea what to look for in specs, see a P4 for $50/mo and think "AWESOME DEAL!". Beats some of the rigs I've seen around, still people out there running basic web services off servers from the early 90's. Akensai.com You can always trust a dishonest man to be dishonest. |
