Looks great Josh. I have noticed a quirk, which is that an email sent using Outlook (to SMTP) gets through fine, but an identical email sent to the same recipient gets filtered out as spam when Roundcube is used. It's also a pity that Roundcube doesn't support multiple SMTP servers when sending using different identities, as that'll also help reduce the number of false positives with spam filters.

Below are (censored) copies of the message headers:

Outlook + SMTP server (mail.myemail1.com with SSL) - received fine without problems.

Really slow at the initial login (3 - 5 mins) with large inboxes. Verified with other users in #dreamhost.

Login a bit slow though with my mailbox.

couple of regrets :
- width of the folder pane can't be changed. With 3 levels of sub nested folders it's a bit annoying.

- the compose message window is nice, but definitely would benefit of a wisywyg (à la tiny_mce, FCK editor, gmail, etc..) composing window.

- Loading a large folder takes forever and can't be interrupted, if you click by mistake in a folder thas has too many messages, leaving you stuck, waiting for the load to complete.

the header buttons of the panes dissapear when scrolling down. That is definitively annoying as you have to scroll back up to change the sort order if needed.

Other than the slowness (and i mean sloooooooow) of the folder loadings and these few regrets, the look and feel is quite good, much better than squirel :)

i never use squirrelmail because it is so bad - this upgrade would make me reconsider showing people I've hooked up with Dreamhost how to use the provided webmail.

Thanks

Feels a little sluggish, but not so bad when I compare it to other webmail on other systems. In general, really nice, does what I want, great replacement for Squirrel.

Looks good. Bit slow, which I assume would be resolved before coming out of beta.

One thing though: I noticed the Junk Mail folder wasn't showing up. I couldn't see an option somewhere to show it. Am I missing something?

I sometimes get genuine items flagged as spam by mistake so looking at this folder is quite important.

Will DreamHost be keeping Squirrelmail as well as Roundcube?
If 'No', I may suffer a nose-bleed!

If both are kept, will 'Roundcube' be aliased in Apache so I can use a hosted domain URL like https://roundcube.example.com/ rather than something like https://round.example.com/ or https://rc.example.com/ in case it clashes with one of my own rouncube installs?

Really fantastic, I love roundcube, glad to see it's being considered as a replacement for SquirrelMail.

Are there any plans to have a means to connect to the server via SSL? It's really important to have a secure means of checking messages.

Thanks for all the work on this!
Dennis

Nice work, Josh!

Roundcube is nice ... Though it doesn't yet have all the functionality of Squirrelmail (toggle selected, mass manipulation of selected, import address book, etc)) I'm not hating on it or anything, and I think it is great for those who like it.

I just hope it is an *option* instead of *replacing* the squirrel, which actually has more functionality (even if it *is* "fugly")

Having roundcube should be really popular; it is asked for a *lot* on these forums.

Roundcube was consistently causing Firefox to hang for me until I had the bright idea of disabling firebug.

I like it a lot.

The roundcube website says that it can be skinned using XHTML and CSS. If it goes live, is there any chance of being able to skin the look to, let's say replace the dreamhost logo at the top with the logo of our own site for example? Basically being able to write our own theme for a domain.

Holy slowness!!! Although...after the looong wait it takes to get a folder loaded, deleting the junk mail that didn't get filtered is quick! But then, for the display to refresh with additional messages, it again takes forever.

I'll stick with the current best practice: forward everything to Gmail.

You can use https://roundcube.dreamhost.com/ for a secure connection using the DreamHost self signed certificate like Squirrelmail.

Excellent news, thanks for adding this as a beta. Was planning on installing it for myself on DH.

It is a little more sluggish than I am used to with my own install (on a local server but accessed over web) but that seems reasonable given there are more users using DH. The only thing missing really is access to the spam folder.

What version of RC are you using btw?

Maybe this will spur me to get a patch done for mass delete of a folder, rather than a page at a time.

1. Fix the cryptic login screen (use "Email address" instead of "Username").
2. Speed it up.
3. Integrate SpamAssassin - junk mail does not appear to be working properly.
4. When transitioning to webmail2.example.com (or whatever will be used), make sure all the DreamHost branding can be swapped for customer branding.

Looks good - other than the slowness, which I'm guessing will probably be resolved (I hope?) once it's out of testing.

Definetly something a little more user friendly for my non savvy webmail users!

Hi. Prettier than SquirrelMail but missing an important feature:

I can't seem to find any "Mark as Unread" or "Mark as Read" - importante..

I'm not sure if there is real hatred for SquirrelMail - I think it gets the job done nicely.. would always want more speed speed...

Thanks! /jad
