I've been a customer almost 5 years. In the beginning, you could not beat the bang for the buck. Trouble tickets were answered quickly. Something has changed. Our email has been DOWN FOR OVER 24 HOURS! No response to multiple service requests. I think it is time to look for alternatives.

A quote from one of the service tags that sums up the current attitude.

"I think it is interesting that in the FAQ about moving from shell to a separate email service, they insult and belittle the customers that have been with them the longest. In my business, those are the ones we take care of.

It was not my choice to have mail in the shell account. That is how they did it when we joined. It was not my choice to have it screwed up by Dreamhost in the move to a separate server. I'm not an idiot for staying with shell email, the purpose of having a ISP is to not have to worry about the technology.

It would not have been that hard to address this long before the server crashed. All I would have needed was to backup the email directory in the shell before they tried to move it."

Hi all,
I'm wondering if most ppl buy their domain with AND host with DH. I've been told that it's better to do them separately.

Any opinions?

Hi

I found the my sites hosted by DreamHost are very slow and unstable. I sent request to CS for many times but every reply were not related and even nonsense.

Any guys also had such experience? Please give me some advise. I'm new to here and I don't wanted to give up my paid service charge and switch to another hosting company...

I don't think all of you guys have the same problem because my friend who also use dreamhost but his site up and running find (http://blog.hk). But my site (http://hkcollege.net) was unstable or even down for about 2 weeks...

Thanks and Regards.

I have been a customer since 2004. I have referred many people to Dreamhost over the years. I have been paying for a VPS for a few years now.

Sometime last week (around Nov 12th), all of my sites went down. I only noticed this because I tried to access one and was taken to an empty root directory.

I am missing literally 100s of GB of data. I have gone back and forth with Dreamhost customer support for the past 7 days in an effort. Despite them telling me it is being fixed, there has been virtually no progress made. ALL of my dreamhost-hosted domains are down (both business and personal).

I am absolutely beyond words to describe this experience and despite making repeated requests for someone to call me, have yet to speak with a new rep.

Has anyone else experienced this - ever - with ANY company? This is unbelievably insane to me.

I'm a freelance web content manager and have a client who currently has his website hosted through an employee's personal DreamHost account.

He wants to split his website and everything that goes with it (hosting, domain, email, databases) off into his own account.

The employee has given me full admin privileges to his personal account, but I'm struggling to find a way to split the account without downloading my client's information to a local machine and then re-uploading it to a new account.

Since we're staying within DreamHost, I was hoping there would be an easy way to separate designated information from the original account to another without messing around with downloading and uploading content to a local machine.

I don't mind downloading and uploading the website and its associated database, but they have some decent sized email accounts that I prefer not to do this with.

The bottom line is that I want to create a new web and email hosting account for my client with as little downtime as possible.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

hi i've been using DH for years now, and i just got your newsletter with the DreamHost PS (Private Servers) promo.

i'm thinking about upgrading but i wanted to know...
Would I be able to install Flash media Server 3-4 on it?

i'm streaming a good amount of video and i have to use another hosting company "Edgecast" for this service. I would rather have everything in one place ala Dreamhost.

thanks for your time.

Is it ok to set up list and invite my more than 1000 yahoogroups members ?

Will it be considered spamming ? They actually have to opt-in, that's why I reinvite them to join.
