If says that your files are outdated, you need to do first svn update to get the changes you may have done from other machine or a partner may have commited (let say, you don't have the most up to date version of the revision tree, and because of this svn don't let you commit), then do a svn stat to know if you had conflicts (that need attention) and then you can do a svn commit (svn ci for short)...

A great reading for user and admin is http://svnbook.red-bean.com/ available on line.

Pst. An actual cut & paste of the messages you got, will work a lot better ;D

Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.

Is this the Easy Install, or Advanced One-Click install? It sounds to me like you've entered an incorrect database name, hostname, username, or password. Upon completion of the One-Click install, the "Robot" will email you with the proper settings to use. You *won't* be using your FTP username and password to access the database.

I do not know if it will, or will not, install on a DreamHost shared server. I looked at the specifications document but it did not have a clear set of system requirements. It did, however, include this text:

"The dimdim back end has two servers – Conference Server and a Streaming Server. The conference server hosts all the conferences taking place on that server while there is a dedicated streaming server for each conference server."

Theses statements alone indicate that whether or not you could succeed in installing it, doing so would not be allowed on a DreamHost shared account, as stated in the Terms of Service and clarified in the DreamHost Wiki.

Can anyone say for sure if DimDim will or will not install at DH? I'd think not. It seems to have a number of server-side dependencies.

I'm not entirely sure if this correct, but you may try running the command 'svn st' (svn status) to see what the status of your files are. It is possible that you may have some conflicts somewhere that need to be resolved.

Also, SVN does have a locking mechanism so it also possible that SVN thinks those files are locked. I forget the command to fix this issue, but if you the command 'svn' it will give a list of all the supported subcommads, and then just use 'svn help' for more info on one.

Hope this helps!

Hi,
I am still haveing trouble installing this software. I have followed the instructions as stated by the script and I'm still getting an error: "Cannot create admin directory."
This is what I'm doing step by step:

1) creat the mysql database name, mysql username and mysql password

2)create a directory called "st" underneath your web root directory

3)made sure the permissions of this directory are chmodded to 777

4)downloaded the installer file install.php and saved it under the "st" directory.

5)started the installer from my internet browser, clicked on the link which says "Click here to download installation files". and downloaded the installation files.

6) after i downloaded the installation files i get this msg "files successfully downloaded START INSTALLATION"

7)this is the final step in which i can't proceed any firther because i get this error msg: "Cannot create admin directory"

can you tell me what i am doing wrong. i tried doing this installation a thousand times and it may be some minute that i am overlooking or not doing. any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks :)

Hi.

I'm using svn for my projects and well frankly I started using first when I became a dreamhost customer, before that I stuck with cvs as I've done since the stoneages ;)

Anyways now and then it completely locks and says stuff is outdated and refuse to commit. It does not help at all to use the --force flag.

Is there anyway you can force svn to commit? or how do one resolve these issues?

when svn refuse to commit the repository has basicly commited suicide(lol :) ) on my part, because atm the only way I know how to fix the problem is to remove the repsoitory and create a new one (loosing all previous versions)..

cheers,
Stian

I'm having difficulty installing a custom php5.
When I run the custom scripts, all seems to go fine, but... the install attempts to create a new www directory for the php.ini file.
I set the domain in the script to www.mydomain.
I did not however change the paths in the script where it says for example:
" # Where do you want all this stuff built? I'd recommend picking a local
# filesystem.
# ***Don't pick a directory that already exists!*** We clean up after
# ourselves at the end!
SRCDIR=${HOME}/source".

If my directory tree looks like this through shell ftp:
/home/.ewing/dcgspot/www.mydomain, what should I insert before "/source" in the script for it to install to the proper destination, with the php.ini file landing in the correct location?

You can use the RSS module in the sidebar to show the latest posts from any feed, but I don't know of anything off the top of my head that will order those RSS sets in terms of which feed was most recently updated.

I love Blogger's new "My Blog List" feature. It's like an advanced blogroll- under the name of the blog, it shows the title of their most recent post, and how long ago it was posted (2 hours ago, 2 days ago, etc). Then it sorts the blogs by order of most recent update, instead of just regular alphabetical order.

http://buzz.blogger.com/2008/06/show-off-your-favorite-blogs-with-blog.html

Alas, I have Wordpress. I spent *all night* looking for a similar widget / plugin / whatever, but couldn't find anything.

Is there anything that's similar to this that I could use in wordpress? Any ideas at all?

Thanks so much for your help :)

OK I thought this might be a challenge I could conquer but I tried CHMods and DH's permission set up and it always generates the same result.

So I wanted to see how other Pligg sites displayed the settings file, and found almost the exact same thing on the pligg.com domain and any Pligg site I have a link handy to. Even on the live Pligg demo, you can see the folders below public_html in the settings output.

I guess I'm left wondering if its really a problem? Its not the most secure thing I've ever seen, but it still isn't enough info on its own to provide unauthorized access - I think.

Hello from OpenX!

Glad to hear you got through things OK and thanks for posting to try and help other users.

This should be ok for small updates like 2.4.x to 2.4.y. Most likely no changes to the configuration file is needed.

However - there shouldn't be such an error message. It could be that the owner (not permissions) of the configuration file itself needs to be changed.

What is listed as the owner of the domain.conf.php file in your openx/var directory? Try:
1) Downloading it using FTP
2) Rename, or delete (careful!)
3) Re-upload from your computer using FTP
Now, the owner should be correct. Obviously, this is more easily done if you have full permissions on the server.

If this doesn't help then the other thing to check would be the domain name in the config file 'example.com.conf.php' versus the domain you are using, lets say 'www.example.com' (the www is important). This issue should be helped if you have a 'default.conf.php' file in your var directory. Depending on what version you came from, this might have not been present. However this should no longer be an issue with upgrading new versions.

It's because on the command line the command 'php' invokes the php4 interpreter, not php5.

I'm not sure how to invoke php5 from the command line, sorry. Hope somebody will help us here.

If it's an FTP issue, you can use Net2FTP/WebFTP from the Domains -> Manage Domains section, or:
http://webftp.dreamhost.com/

Hi -- I've installed Pligg using an advanced one-click install and it's working like a dream.

I've been attempting to secure things. One issue is worrying me -- settings.php is viewable by the world. Just type example.com/settings.php and you get the following in your browser window:

Warning: include_once(mnmincludesettings_from_db.php) [function.include-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/.servername/username/example.com/settings.php on line 6

Warning: include_once() [function.include]: Failed opening 'mnmincludesettings_from_db.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/local/php5/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/.servername/username/example.com/settings.php on line 6

I've removed any personally identifying material in the path for posting here in this forum, but included is the name of DreamHost's server, then my DreamHost username. Although not an immediate security problem, that's perhaps too much detail to be giving away.

Over at the Pligg site they say to change permissions on the file, but this makes no difference with Dreamhost because (I think) of the way it's setup. Even with permissions of -rw------- (as it has right now), the file can still be viewed.

So can anybody help? Is there a .htaccess trick to be done here? I've tried disabling PHP errors but it makes no difference, leading me to wonder if this is actually a PHP error.

HOW TO Upgrade OpenX http://discussion.dreamhost.com/showflat.pl?Board=3rdparty&Number=108833&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=14&vc=1#Post108833 Sat, 19 Jul 2008 21:29:55 -0700 username 3rdparty http://discussion.dreamhost.com/showflat.pl?Board=3rdparty&Number=108833&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=14&vc=1#Post108833 Post Reply?

Hi all,

I just installed OpenX from the 1-Click today, and as soon as I finished it I got a message that there was a new version available. I had a hell of a time upgrading to the new version, so I thought it might help others if I posted what I did here.

install path:
mysite.com/openx/

first copy everything from mysite.com/openx/ to mysite.com/openx_backup

then delete everything in the original directory
and untar the update into that directory

now copy the 2 configuration files from mysite.com/openx_backup/var/ to mysite.com/openx/var/.
Both configuration files will have the term "config" in their names. There should be like a default.config.php and a longer-named-file with some portion or all of your website's address in it.

Point your browser to mysite.com/openx to be taken to the install wizard. Go through the agreements and then at the bottom of the check page make sure it says it has detected an older version of OpenX and it can be upgraded.

Then go on to the database page (should already be configured since you are updating). Press continue. You almost definately will get something that says "Failed to upgrade configuration file."

Now go delete the file called UPGRADE which is located at mysite.com/openx/var/UPGRADE

Again, point your browser to mysite.com/openx and you should be logged in to the updated version (I am just hoping this really is completely installed correctly).

Also, on a side note, when I installed OpenX, I did so on a subdomain that was all to itself (e.g. openx.mysite.com) and I was a bit unsure of creating a directory since DreamHost seems to keep all the domains in our home directories and I am not totally sure how DH works. But I went ahead and made the dir and it worked fine.

Thanks for the quick response.

Unfortunately, your suggestion didn't help, but it got me thinking. I ended up playing with the directory structure to swfplayer.flv and configuring WP-FLV and I ended up adding a / before pointing to the correct directory. That made all the difference.

Thanks!

It sounds like a folder issue. It may be easier if your player pointed to the absolute address of the video. I am guessing when you click on a page, the page is in a different folder like you show above. The player is looking for the video in that same folder. You could also place a copy of the flv into that folder just to see if thats the issue. Then decide what to do.

OK, I finally managed to get it working with the WP-FLV plugin. The flash videos play OK on the frontpage of my blog and in my gallery.

However, the videos do NOT play when viewing the individual post. So, for example, if a person reads the post on the frontpage at http://www.mysite.com/ the videos will show and play no problem.

However, if they click on the individual post and view it at (for example) http://www.mysite.com/07/18/flash-video-post then they won't be able to see or watch the videos.

Any solutions to this problem? Thanks.

I've been trying for a day to figure out how to host a .flv file on my site and embed it into a Wordpress post. My directory's are setup as follows:

/mysite.com/ - html/wp files
/mysite.com/wp-content/videos - directory of the .flv videos
/mysite.com/flash/ - directory of the .swf player and .js script

I'm writing a blog post in Wordpress and would like to embed the flash video. I don't want to host it on youtube or google video or anywhere else - I just want to keep it on my site and host it from there.

I've tried the WP-FLV plugin, Flash video plugin, and Kimli flash video plugin. Either I don't have them configured correctly, or they just aren't working.

Any help on directory structure, plugin configuration, or general troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated.

Hi guys!

I`m having problems to install ZenPhoto in one of my domains at Dreamhost... I don`t want to use the One-Click Installer because I need to customize this system and then use it with wordpress...

What i`ve done until now:

- downloaded zenphoto-1.1.7.zip from zenphoto.org and unpacked;
- uploaded the entire folder "zenphoto" to root directory using FTP;

When i tried to access domain.com/zenphoto/ , it redirects me to domain.com/zenphoto/zp-core/setup.php and displays this error message: "No input file specified." !

What i`ve already tried to:
- edit RewriteBase at the .htaccess file using /home/username/domain.com structure;
- configure domain.com/zenphoto/zp-core/zp-config.php with database information;
- Set permission settings for the “/albums” and “/cache” to 777.
- Change the version of PHP to 5.2.x at "Manage Domains" (before this the page was calling cgi-sysyem/zp-core/setup.php or somthing like that).

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
Anderson Clayton

Hello, thanks to this thread i managed to install ViewVC without problems (i also got robfrog's error).
(By the way, ViewVC's latest version is 1.0.5)

I don't understand how you managed to get it working tho. I apparently can't get the server to run the cgi scripts (unless there's something else i'm doing wrong).
I tried following the steps in this Dreamhost's wiki:
http://wiki.dreamhost.com/CGI

I could be wrong, because there's no way to tell if the cgi script is being executed. But then, if it was, the browser would load ViewVC, right?
I installed ViewVC in the main public folder, made a directory called cgi-bin, and put the script there, like the wiki says.
Installation was correct, at least the installer told so. The last step was to get the viewvc.cgi script running...

Does anyone else have ViewVC running in their host? How did you make it happen? Please, help me on this one. :(

Ask Support. This would be interesting to find out.

Anybody using this? Any DH issues with using this?

"A semi-automated, largely passive web application security audit tool, optimized for an accurate and sensitive detection, and automatic annotation, of potential problems and security-relevant design patterns based on the observation of existing, user-initiated traffic in complex web 2.0 environments.

Detects and prioritizes broad classes of security problems, such as dynamic cross-site trust model considerations, script inclusion issues, content serving problems, insufficient XSRF and XSS defenses, and much more."

Your Database Username should be the one listed in the Manage MySQL section with your database. It's the "Users With Access." And if you click that username, it'll bring you to a screen that has its current password.

By the way, if you did a One-Click install, the Success email you received should have all this information in there. If you haven't gotten a message, then check the Panel under Support for Support History.

My mistake, I meant to say i had it set as mysql.mydomain.com, I didn't mean database name.

So that doesn't seem to be the problem

Thank you though

The "DSN" Needs to be mysql.mydomain.com

This should be listed in Goodies -> Manage MySQL

I'm using Dreamhost's One Click Install for phpBB3. However, when it comes to entering the database settings I'm running into problems.

I'm using the following information

For Database server hostname or DSN: mysql.mydatabasenamehere.com

Database name: I'm using the name I created that's listed under Database(s) on this server in the "Manage mySQL panel".

Database username: The user name under the User Panel. The same for WebFTP etc.

Database password: Same as above

I can't figure out what's wrong with the information I'm entering, but I receive the message "Could not connect to the database, see error message below.
Access denied for user 'myusernamehere'@'serverhere.dreamhost.com' (using password: YES)"

Any ideas would be great!
Thanks

I'm not familiar with the script, but I'd be checking the permissions required on the files you uploaded (chmod).

Can someone help me pleeeeease!

I have been trying to download Smart Thumbs and after I have downloaded and installed the install.php file per the installation instructions I get an error message saying "cannot create admin directory"
I have retraced my steps and have done everything the installation directions has asked me too and repeatedly I get this error message!
Does anyone know what I could possibly be doing, or not doing, to generate this error message and most importantly how can I fix it to complete the installation process?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!
